How did you become part of the SCAS family?
I became part of SCAS in 2010, where I was approached to be a chaperone at the U16 Grant Khomo Rugby Tournament. Since then I became part of this serving family and it’s been an amazing time.
When and how did you get saved?
I was saved in 2008, when I was in grade 10. I had a friend of mine who was always happy, it doesn’t matter what we went through, he was always smiling, at peace and always filled with hope. I asked what his secret was because I definitely needed and he invited me to his youth. I’ve never felt so welcomed and loved by strangers in my life. They just loved on me, embraced me and made me part of their family immediately. I started going to church regularly and started serving without giving me heart to Christ. One Sunday the word of God just pierced through my heart and I couldn’t help but lay down my life, take up my cross and follow Jesus.
Who are you? (Tell us more about yourself, what are your passions etc.)
I am the only child and was raised by a single mother who brought me up in the ways of the Lord. Unfortunately she passed on a few years ago. I am currently studying Social Sciences at the university of the Free State, and I’m majoring in Criminology. I will be finishing next year. Serving, worship, sports and discipleship is a big deal of my life and will do it anytime when the opportunity presents itself. I enjoy singing, playing guitar or keyboard, so music is also a big part of my life. I love any kind of sports, and that’s why I enjoy serving at the Cravenweek.
What has the Lord called you for?
Luke 4:18-19English Standard Version (ESV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
I believe that God has called me to proclaim the gospel, love and just serve people wherever God has place me.
An inspiring word?
17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”[a]
This is one of the most amazing verses I have ever read. I always struggled with discipleship and felt like I had to do everything on my own, I have to perform or figure it out, until I read this piece. I then realised the only thing I had to do was to follow Jesus and let him take me on a journey of how to fish people. So we don’t have to perform or do something extraordinary if I can put it like that. All we have to do, is FOLLOW.
