SCAS News Letter - July 2024

We are grateful to our Lord for all our opportunities to serve in and through sports during this past term. Here is feedback on some of the highlights.

U/18 CRAVENWEEK

This prestigious tournament, involving South Africa's top 16 provincial rugby teams, was hosted by Monument High School in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, from 24-29 June 2024. The SCAS Team, consisting of 20 volunteers from various provinces, dedicated themselves to aiding and serving the local organizing committee (LOC), referees, coaches, and players. The feedback was that they were grateful to the SCAS staff as their service contributed significantly to the tournament's success.

Our role extended beyond logistical support as we shared the Gospel, led Discovery Bible Study (DBS) sessions, fostered meaningful connections with coaches and players, and provided hands-on assistance to the LOC and teams. During the week, numerous players accepted Jesus as their Saviour.

GLOBAL IMPACT 2024

In June, we had the privilege of hosting a remarkable group of students from the US and various African countries at "Die Eiland Training Centre" for Global Impact 2024. The program included focused, Christ-centred teachings on God, sport, and nations, community outreach projects, an engaging kids' camp, enriching cultural excursions, and various other activities. It was a transformative experience, touching lives profoundly and fostering enduring friendships.

SCAS CAMPS / CAMPSITE

'Die Eiland’ Campsite and Training Centre is situated in the Jonkershoek Valley just outside Stellenbosch, along the river and amongst majestic mountains. We hosted 35 camps during the first semester of 2024, with twenty-five more camps coming up in the second semester.

Groups can choose between SCAS Camps (with our programs) or Self-Catering camps (with their own programs, where they just rent the campsite). We offer programs for Team Building, Leadership, Learner Council, Adventure, hikes, etc.

The SCAS Eiland Campsite and Training Centre is the ideal venue for your team-building or Conference. Contact us to find out more.

TRAINING PROGRAMS

SCAS offers a variety of programs and activities with which we can support coaches, teachers, athletes, learners, and organizations. These include Mental Toughness, True Identity, Life Skills, and Man-up for men. We also offer formal courses (internet-based or in-person) in E3 Discipleship (Engage/Equip/ Empower), 3D Coaching for Certification, 360 Coach (Bible study with the 3D principles), and various other courses and resources.

SPORT TOURNAMENTS

We are expanding across South Africa, seizing more opportunities to serve in and through sports tournaments. Our volunteers (called Chaperones) play a pivotal role in any sports tournament, fostering an environment where all involved are assisted and served to focus on what they have to do. We also offer spiritual guidance and support that develops everyone as individuals and teams, guided by solid principles.

Chaperones' responsibilities encompass serving the team, providing spiritual guidance and support, and utilizing sports as a tool for character development. The school or tournament organizers offer accommodation and meals for the chaperones, while SCAS assumes responsibility for their training, attire, and supervision.

Together, we aim to create impactful experiences that empower young athletes to grow holistically and fulfil their God-given potential.
